You have been using many apps on your mobile but that does not mean you know how to develop one. You might have traveled a number of flyer miles, but that does not mean you can fly a plane. Some people believe that after taking a few classes they have become an expert and they can teach others. The problem does not lie in the fact that they can do it, but the fact that the trainers can teach without having to learn, study or practice.
So take up this list and find out some of the best tips that make you a perfect as a new trainer.
#Tip 1: Keep you lecture short
There is nothing perfect than a lecture if you have taken learning as the goal. However, it might not be the only way for all instances, but in most cases, it is. Since lectures are long, often it is better to keep short and precise to manage time. Say if you are running a session combining both lecture and lab and run out of time, then you have to chop off the lecture, as it is too long. But the new trainers often do the opposite, which make them suffer a lot. Be a smart trainer and keep the lecture short to have a full on session with impactful skill sets.
#Tip 2: Nail fewer subjects than exposing a wider range of subjects
In most cases, you will find that the students leave the classes, as they do not find them interesting. As the classes are too lengthy and descriptions are vague. Most of the classes can be improved and the trainers can teach by shaving off the content amount. Remember that the trainers who face criticism for not covering enough topics or finishing the course of the topics are the people who did not deliver a good experience with what they covered.
#Tip 3: Learn how to manage multiple skills and knowledge levels
For new trainers, the greatest challenge is managing multiple skills and knowledge levels. The worst thing you can do is pick up a specific skill and teach to that, ignoring the needs of those learners who are slow or more advanced. And do not use the excuse that if they do not have the prerequisites they should not be attending your classes. Remember a trainer can teach if they know the trick to manage the multiple skills levels.
#Tip 4: Work hard to make everyone finish the lab exercises
New trainers must make sure that every student is successful enough at the exercise. And if you give them the solution in advance, you will be simply robbing them of the chance to seriously kick ass on difficult aspects of the lesson. You do not want the students to become stuck and frustrated.
#Tip 5: Do group exercises
You know there is a huge social component to learning, regardless of how much we try to eliminate this fact from the classroom. There is always a way to do interactive group exercises that work surprisingly well for the new trainers.
#Tip 6: Strength lies in designing exercise
The best exercise always includes an element of surprise and failure. You will find that the worst exercises are those where you get to spend 45 minutes explaining how something works and then have them duplicate everything you just spoke. Trainers can teach something new creative style, but making students copy them exactly is something derogatory. It kills the creativity. It is always better to design the exercises that produce unexpected results. The exercise should be intuitive and have an impact on the students mind.
#Tip 7: Bid adieu to your ego
A trainer can teach and can be successful, only if they leave their ego at the door. No matter how much you know, how smart you are or what you have done. It is far more important to consider how smart your students are, what they know and what they have done.
Every new trainer must know the fact that your passion is going to keep the students awake until the last minute of the training session. Your passion must be infectious. It is up to you about how to stay passionate or else you must quit teaching until you get it back.
