Two Day International Conference on ‘Demographics—Dividend or Disaster?’

A two-day International Conference on “Demographics—Dividend or Disaster” was organized by Jain University, in collaboration with iNurture Education Solutions Pvt. Ltd., as knowledge partner, on 29 and 30 January, 2016. The conference provided a platform for thought leaders from the academia and industry to discuss how the changing demographics of the country will impact its growth and development. Over the course of two days, various eminent speakers discussed demographics in the wider context of youth empowerment, education, employment, and skill development. About 55 research papers were also presented by scholars and professors from various universities.

The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. N. Sundararajan, Vice Chancellor of Jain University and the keynote address was presented by Dr. A. Ravindra, Former Chief Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka and Chairman, Centre for Sustainable Development. Some of the other dignitaries at the event were Mr. M. I. Ganagi (Chief General Manager, NABARD), Mr. S. Subramanian (Ex-RBI Officer and Founder Chairman of Financeprofessors.com), Prof. Lakshminarayanan (Chief Learning Officer & Co-Founder, iNurture Education Solutions Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. Charan Singh (RBI Chair Professor of Economics, IIM Bangalore), Mr. Vivek Kulkarni (Former IT Secretary, Karnataka Govt. and Founder & Chairman, Brickwork India), Ms. Lata Subramaniam (Former HR Head, IBM) and Mr. Bijou Kurien (Board Member – L Capital Asia & Mentor; Former President & CE – Life style, Reliance Retail Ltd.; COO Titan Watches)

In the concluding note, the topic for the next year’s conference was revealed as “Impact of Climate Change on Economic Development – Opportunities and Challenges”. In the valedictory function, the best three paper presenters were felicitated and were awarded cash prices. The first prize was won by Prof. Asra from iNurture Education Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Jain University, Bangalore. The second prize was shared by Prof. Sapna Nabsaiya and Prof. Puneet from iNurture Education Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Jain University, Bangalore. Certificates were distributed to all the conference participants and the research paper presenters.
