FDP On Research Methods Using SPSS

On 8th and 9th June 2015 Jain College, Jayanagar conducted FDP faculty development programme on “Research Methods using SPSS”. The resource person was Dr. Vinod Murty, Academic Head Financial Services & Business Analytics, iNurture Education Solutions. The 40 participant were faculties from varied background and were interested to do research or Phd in their respective fields. The objective of workshop was to enable participants define research problem, formulate hypothesis, understand use and appropriateness of various statistical techniques, and use statistical software to analyse data.

The speaker introduced basics of research methods, view of hypothesis testing in research and a need of quantitative thinking. He explained exploratory data analysis techniques like graphs and descriptive statistics. He discussed inferential statistical techniques like testing of hypothesis to formulate research hypothesis. He explained various tests and use of regression analysis with the help of very simple practical illustrations, and also helped participants to understand statistics behind it in simple manner. He demonstrated how to use MS Excel and Statistical software SPSS for each of the data analysis techniques. Participants got hands on experience to work on excel and SPSS software using real data.

The FDP made participants eager to do quality research with help of these advanced techniques and softwares.
